BiTE-ing Back: Tarlatamab in Small Cell Lung Cancer
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive disease associated with poor survival outcomes. Patients with extensive stage SCLC often progress on therapy within months. Tarlatamab, a bispecific T cell engager (BITE) was recently approved for treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) in those with disease progression on or after platinum-based chemotherapy. As use of tarlatamab begins to increase, pharmacists should be aware of how this agent works, it's role in therapy, and management of side effects, notably cytokine release syndrome and neurologic toxicities.
