This Aggression Will Not Stand Man!
Currently, the evidence to support the use of pharmacologic therapies for the management of aggression is weak. Over the years, there have been several medications studied as adjunct options for treatment of refractory aggression in schizophrenia and behavioral disorders. Allopurinol is an option that has shown benefit in numerous case reports but is not a commonly considered or utilized option. Pharmacists should be aware of all potential agents that have shown benefit in aggression and agents that may be utilized for more than one indication.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Upon completion of the lecture, participants will be able to summarize the biological and psychological mechanisms underlying aggression and its treatment options.
- After review of the clinical evidence, participants will compare and contrast the therapeutic efficacy and side effect profiles of the recommended treatment options for aggression.
- Given a patient case, participants will be able to assess if the use of allopurinol is appropriate and safe for the management of aggression.
